Don Whitley Scientific (DWS) are proud to announce that we have raised a grand total of £1720 for the Principle Trust Children’s Charity through the Locks to Leeds sponsored walk this weekend!
Starting at our headquarters in Bingley, 20 DWS employees laced up their walking boots on Saturday 12th September and took on the 15.5-mile challenge way along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to Leeds City Centre. Whilst the distance was certainly a tough trek (with many sore legs in the office on Monday morning!), we’re so proud of our team and the difference their efforts will make in providing respite breaks for local children and their families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
Choosing this Charity
As a Skipton-based charity, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity was an organisation we were particularly keen to support, having heard about the wonderful work they do in our community through our official charitable partner, the Holly House Foundation. As a company whose strong community ties and Yorkshire heritage form a core part of our identity, we have always been passionate about supporting charities that make a difference close to home. Based in Bingley, with many of our staff living across Bradford and the wider West Yorkshire area, the charity’s work feels particularly relevant to our team. The opportunity for families who may otherwise be unable to have a holiday to spend quality time together and make lasting memories is something we are very proud to support.
About the Challenge
Choosing a challenge that was active, local and inclusive was particularly important, giving as many of our staff as possible the opportunity to get involved alongside their friends and families. As well as the DWS team members taking on the full 15.5 miles, the route meant that as many friends, children and family members could take part as possible, with the option to join for shorter sections if needed. This meant as many people in the DWS family as possible could contribute to the challenge and play their part in supporting our fundraising efforts.
A huge thank you to each member of the team and their families who walked the distance, The Principle Trust for their support throughout the campaign (and for providing much-needed snacks along the route!), and, of course, to every single individual who donated, whether big or small. Hitting and surpassing our target of £1,500 is no easy feat, but we’re delighted that our efforts will be able to directly support local families.
